Course Materials:    

●     Text Book: Principles of Supply Chain Management, 3rd ed., by J.D. Wisner, K.-C. Tan, G.K. Leong, Cengage Learning, 2012.

●     All in-class materials will be posted on the Blackboard.

●     Additional required readings may be distributed in class and/or posted on Blackboard. Suggested additional readings include articles from current business publications that illustrate course topics in the context of real business organizations.

Prerequisites: 

Minimum 2.50 GPA and junior standing.  Students who have not successfully completed the course prerequisite must withdraw from this class. You risk deregistration if you have not completed the course prerequisite.

 

Course Description:

Students learn the basic analytical tools needed to coordinate business operations across the value chain. Course involves hands-on coverage of supply chain management with emphasis on supplier partnering and development, customer relations management, strategic sourcing and pricing, e-business, measuring supply chain performance, mass customization, and planning supply and demand coordination in the supply chain.

 

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course the student will be able to:

●     Understand the basics and goals of supply chain management

●     Identify and understand the major drivers of supply chain performance

●     Forecast and analyze supply chain demand needs

●     Manage materials in a supply chain environment

●     Evaluate vendor performance and their impact on supply chain efficiency

●     Identify, design, and analyze supply chain distribution networks

●     Describe the impact of coordination (or lack thereof) on the supply chain

 

Class policy & Assessment:

●     Lectures (20): Attending every lecture is important for not just earning points, but for your better understanding of the material covered and will help you see the big picture as well as details in every chapter discussed. Ten (10) attendance will be taken randomly. Missing two or more classes will not get the 20 points.

●     Homework (100 points): There will be five (5) homework assignments given throughout the semester. All the homeworks are completed online. The homework due dates are given in the syllabus. No late homework will be accepted. Each homework assignment is worth 20 points for a total of 100 points. You need to finish homework in one sitting.

●     Exams (200 points): There will be 4 open-book, open-note exams (50 points each exam). However, using any kind of electronic device during the exam is not allowed. There is no make-up for missing exams.

●     Final exam (80): Open-book, open-notes exam. The final exam is cumulative exam.

●     Grading: The maximum points is 400. The following table gives you the total points required for each grade.  There is no rounding.

The Following Policies Apply to All Students in this Course

 

For Spring 2015 the course withdrawal deadline is Sunday, March 29, 2015.  Withdrawal before the deadline results in a "W" on the official transcript; after the deadline a grade must be calculated and reported.

 

A.    Prerequisite: Students attending the course who do not have the proper prerequisite risk being deregistered from the class.

 

B.     Enrollment: Students have responsibility to ensure they are properly enrolled in classes. You are advised to review your official class schedule (using Student Tools in FlashLine) during the first two weeks of the semester to ensure you are properly enrolled in this class and section.  Should you find an error in your class schedule, you have until Sunday, January 25, 2015 to correct the error with your advising office.  If registration errors are not corrected by this date and you continue to attend and participate in classes for which you are not officially enrolled, you are advised now that you will not receive a grade at the conclusion of the semester for any class in which you are not properly registered.

 

C.    Academic Honesty:  Cheating means to misrepresent the source, nature, or other conditions of your academic work (e.g., tests, papers, projects, assignments) so as to get undeserved credit.   The use of the intellectual property of others without giving them appropriate credit is a serious academic offense.  It is the University's policy that cheating or plagiarism result in receiving a failing grade (0 points) for the work or course.  Repeat offenses may result in dismissal from the University.
